Between last week of April and first week of May this year(2014) a visit through Kinnaur, Spiti and Pin valley in Himachal Pradesh was unique in a sense that the weather – a very important element in Himalayas, remained sunny and there were no obstacles anywhere on road. However, we missed out on few destinations as snow was not cleared for the vehicular traffic to resume...........more..........

Snow Swept Baspa Valley – Rakcham, Kinnaur, Himachal

It is rare to get ‘peak winter‘ like conditions in ‘peak summer’ at destinations like Rakcham in Himachal Pradesh. Tourists who were holed up at this place between 16th – 18th June, 2013, carried indelible impressions in their mind for having watched a continuous snowfall for two days, followed by a clear sunlit day. The extreme chill .........more..........

Tracking Flamingos’ Journey Through High Seas To Sewri Mudflats, Mumbai

This account of my experience of tracking Flamingos’ journey on 24th February, 2013, was not as per my intent but due to circumstances and some amount of luck. In my earlier visits to Sewri mudflats resulted in some videos and images of Flamingos and other migratory birds. For the present trip, as usual, I noted the high tide timings which was slated to be at 11.15 am and decided to reach the jetty  at 12.15 pm when Flamingos were expected arrive on mudflats with tide water  ..........more...........

Dal Lake Is No Dull Lake – Srinagar Revisited

Arriving Srinagar from Mumbai by air on 27th May 2012 in early afternoon, checking in at hotel, we had a late lunch and sauntered around the Dal Gate area and TRC. With no idea as to what we should do, a stroll on Boulevard road adjoining Dal lake was the easiest option. While walking, we were content in watching the stationed houseboats and cruising shikaras on a placid Dal lake. Some distance later we fell an easy prey to a smooth talking, English speaking young Kashmiri shikara-wallah named Samir, for one hour plus cruise on Dal lake for Rs. 500/-; we just stepped on ..........more..........

Ice Ripples – Nature’s Amazing Creations

Location : Penzi La pass on Rangdum – Padum route, Zanskar, Western Ladakh, Altitude: 14,000’

Date: 1.6.2012
We started from Rangdum at around 7.30 am with ambient at minus one degree. Bypassing Rangdum monastery, we took to the gradient through mud-stone track, arriving for our first halt at Penzi La. Unlike other mountain passes of Ladakh, this one is on a flat land as far as eyes could go. The snow splattered hills and the snow covered flat land, in early summer, as seen from road, was picture post card of a beauty. We found a signage indicating Statso/Langtso lakes. One of the two lakes could be recognized by gray outline on the base of a snow covered hill. The lake was totally frozen – all white. The azure colored  ........more........
